Kris and I purchased the original Allegro Vineyards and moved to Brogue in 2001. It was the start of a new life for us: growing grapes, making wine, being part of a wine community, and raising our family. We brought with us our newborn son and a second one soon joined him. We were young, energetic, and full of enthusiasm for our new surroundings.
The journey across 25 years has had so many twists and turns and detours. It's hard to imagine that we (two overconfident 30-somethings) could have navigated it. What started as a single 4,000-square-foot building and approximately 5 acres of grapes has now grown to many buildings across two properties and almost 28 acres of vineyards. Along the way we've grown from Allegro Vineyards to Allegro Winery, Pinnacle Ridge Winery, and Cadenza Vineyards.
In the vineyard, we've faced everything from blizzards to hurricanes. We have lost more vines than we can count, and yet we still look back and smile at all the great vintages that Mother Nature has blessed us with.
We have shared our bottles of wine in countless places across the Commonwealth: at wine festivals, in grocery stores, at businesses, movie theaters, convenience stores, libraries, and the list goes on. We've encountered so many people who had only the limited view that Pennsylvania made only sweet or poor-quality wine, and we've done our best throughout the years to convince them otherwise.
We’ve been blessed by the never-ending support of our customers who find our wines at our tasting rooms and our wine clubs, and in grocery stores, wine and spirit stores, and convenience stores. Some of you we have never met, and some of you we have known for years. A select few might have even known our predecessors, the Crouch brothers. We thank you all.
Throughout it all, we've been honored to work alongside and have the support of the greatest people a small winery and vineyard could hope for. Without all the hard work, dedication, and commitment to Allegro by our staff, none of this would have been possible, and we thank them.
Kris and I have spent this year reflecting on the past 25 years and
how precious they have been. We can’t believe everything that has
happened to us, nor that we are still standing years later. With
that perspective, we look forward to what the next years
bring.
Cheers,
Carl
